Front sideSimm Oriental Cuisine is located in the city of Scappoose, Oregon, Columbia County, Highway 30, NW of Portland with the mission to provide clean and friendly environment for customers. Joey and Bonnie Simm decided on September 1, 2013 to start the restaurant business in the local community in which they live, after many years of a small to-go food cart business. The restaurant serves a variety of dishes, spices and styles originated from Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan.

Each meal is prepared daily and cooked fresh from the kitchen to the dining table. The traditional emphasis in the this region is on aromatic and lightly prepared foods, using a delicate balance of quick stir-frying, steaming, and/or boiling, supplemented with discrete spices and seasonings, including citrus juices and herbs such as basil, cilantro and mint. Soy sauce along with galangal, lemon grass and tamarind is added for flavor.

I am not one to normally write yelp reviews, but this place was awesome! One of those places you drive by and always wonder if it is good… I was pleasenlty surprised, It was the best Thai/Laotion food I have had in a very long time. The owners were very welcoming and you could tell that they take pride in their restauraunt, the place was nicely decorated and clean. The staff was also very friendly. I had the red curry (and I’m not kidding when I say it was the best red curry I’ve ever had!) And my mom had the Lao nam, which was also excellent. Aside from the food being great, the prices were very reasonable. This might just be my new favorite spot. So if you are driving by and wondering if it is good, I think it is definitely worth the stop!

Really…Good Thai food in Scappoose ???? My husband and I keep our large sail boat on the channel and tried Simms after fellow boaters raved about it. Completely surprised. This food belongs in the Pearl District. The complexity of the flavors is wonderful. The curries are amazing! Cheers, Gabrielle Dowding, Director, Black Swan Events

I am really impressed! I’m glad I stuck it out! 🙂

Pssst: best peanut sauce on the planet

This place has really really really improved!!

The good is fresh, amazing and authentic. The prices are reasonable. The owners are lovely and they have hired some really great waitstaff. The salad rolls are amazing – fresh and served with the most amazing peanut sauce. The Lao Nam is delicious, as us the Pad Thai, Tom Yum, and larb.

I am so happy about improvement in regards to service.

I went there for the first time about two weeks ago. Its the best thing to come to Columbia County… I have eaten there 7 times in the last two weeks… Everything you order is so fresh and delicious. It reminds me of being in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam… The owners are fantastic, nice and willing to share their knowledge of the different dishes… Get in there people. Im in love with their food!

Love this place! We were surprised at how fresh the food was, the difference was noticeable! I had the green beans and chicken special which was wonderful and my husband had the sweet and sour chicken, which we both think is the best we have had in a very long time! We will be back!

We come here often and everything is great. The only thing I’ll pass on here is the Pho. I’m a Pho snob though.

The owner is wonderful and no friendly. The waitstaff has gotten so much better. They still have a few glitches with the staff, but so much better.

My favorites here, are the drunken noodles, larb, salad rolls, avocado curry and duck curry. Oh, the tom yum and tom kah soup is good.

If you want spicy make sure you get 5 stars.

We haven’t eaten in restaurant yet, but we have had take-out six times now. The food has been delicious and consistent. This place is just as good as any Thai take-out in Portland. We are so glad they are here in our community!

We love Simms! The food is always fantastic and the service is just amazing. They have some standard Thai dishes on the menu, along with some that are not so common for the adventurous diners. I cannot say enough good things about their yellow curry, a personal favorite of mine, while my husband and ten-year-old love, love, love the larb. Their portion sizes seem just right, where there’s just enough left overs to be tomorrow’s reminder of a great meal, yet you aren’t carting home seven pounds of food in six styrofoam boxes.

We’re a family on a budget, and this is the first restaurant in town chosen by unanimous family vote every time we get to go out. The owners and servers really make you feel welcome, adding to just a great family dining experience.
